Ben Lomond Road clearing update

The Parks and Wildlife Service has advised that clearing of the road to Ben Lomond is continuing, however this work has been hampered by the vandalism overnight of one of two bulldozers doing the clearing work.

PWS Northern Region manager Chris Colley said there is more than one metre of snow on Jacobs Ladder and there are reports from the village of snow drifts up to two metres in depth.

“We are working to re-open the road as soon as possible, however due to the snow depth and the fact that one bulldozer is now out of action, it is likely the road will not re-open until late on Saturday,” Mr Colley said.

The PWS is advising all intending visitors to Ben Lomond that:

  • Snow chains must be carried at all times and it is the vehicle owner’s responsibility to know how to fit them.

  • Vehicle drivers are reminded to drive to the conditions.

  • Ice is expected on the Ben Lomond road and village car park for some, if not all of the long weekend.

  • It is expected that due to the amount of snow the Ben Lomond road will be one-way traffic in snow-cleared areas.

  • Drivers are reminded to be patient and listen to ABC radio for updates to road conditions.
