Planned Burns

Planned burning is an important part of fire management designed to maintain biodiversity and to reduce the risk posed by bushfires to people, houses, other property and the natural environment.

The locations of these burns are indicated on the map at left and contact information is detailed in the table below. This page is regularly updated. All burns are based on clearly defined objectives and prescriptions, conducted in accordance with an approved burn plan, follow safe working practices, are controlled, and the outcomes monitored and recorded. A full environmental assessment is undertaken for every burning unit.

All complaints relating to smoke should be lodged with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) (phone 1800 005 171). For information on planned burns conducted by the Tasmanian Forest Industry, visit the www.plannedburnstas.com.au web site.

The Tasmania Fire Service has information on bushfires, planned burns and permit fires at www.fire.tas.gov.au/mysite/Show?pageId=colCurrentBushfires and http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colFRPBurnSchedule.
