Black-Headed Honeyeater, Melithreptus affinus
The black-headed honeyeater, one of Tasmania's endemic species, is common in wet and dry sclerophyll forests. It can be distinguished from the strong-billed honeyeater, with which it often occurs in mixed flocks, by its completely black head.
The species feeds on insects within the canopy, often hanging upside down fron branches.
The nest is constructed from fibrous bark, grasses and moss. Two to three spotted, pinkish eggs are layed.
The call is a high-pitched "pssip"
