Temporary closure of Ben Lomond Road

23/08/2012

The Parks and Wildlife Service has advised that the Ben Lomond Road will be temporarily closed as from 7pm tonight to enable urgent stabilisation work to be completed on a rock at Jacobs Ladder.

PWS Northern Region manager Chris Colley said the road has been temporarily closed as a result of geotechnical advice which was sought following observation of recent movement in a large rock above the road. Geotechnical advice recommended stabilisation works be carried out as soon as possible.

The stabilisation works are planned for tomorrow, however this work is weather dependent and the current forecast is not favourable.  The road will be re-opened as soon as the stabilisation works are completed.

PWS has notified stakeholders including Ben Lomond snow businesses.

People intending to visit Ben Lomond are advised to check the PWS and other relevant websites for updates on the status of the road.
