How to make a Booking

Book Your Walk Now

The booking system uses a simple six-step process. A progress bar at the top of the screen will show you where you are through each step of the way.

The maximum party size per booking is 8. Bookings are for the departure date only.

Items that can be paid for through the booking system include;

To check if there's space for your party to depart on your chosen date, you may enter the booking system to view the Availability Calendar, without committing yourself to a booking. The Availability Calendar appears on the first page. You can select any month in the booking season.

You can also get a quote without making a booking. The quote is emailed to you in minutes. A link provided with the quote will return you to the booking system so you can make alterations (if required) and convert the quote to a booking. The quote is not a reservation or booking, and gives no guarantee of departure date.

When making a quote or a booking, you will need to have with you any Concession Cards that your group wish to claim, and any Parks Passes that anyone already has, so you can enter the ID numbers. You will need to show these cards at Cradle when your party checks in to depart on the Track.

Please review all details on your quote carefully. Many details cannot be changed after the booking is finalised and paid. You may change party names and the departure date, subject to the Terms and Conditions policy which will be online when the booking system goes live. If you need to change other details you may do so by telephone (03 6233 6047) or in person at the Visitor Centres listed below.

Security and Your Email Address

Once you have a quote or booking, for security reasons you can only access them using the same email address you originally provided.

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking, by credit card

Only one credit card payment can be made to cover all the walkers in your party. You may pay with cash, cheque, credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Amex only) or travellers cheques (in $AUS) at one of the following Tasmanian National Park Visitor Centres: Cradle, Lake St Clair, Freycinet or Mt Field.

If you don't have access to the internet, you may make a booking by telephone (03 6233 6047) or in-person at one of the above Visitor Centres.

Bookings open July each year for the coming season

We strongly recommend everyone carries a tent.

Booking System Refunds

Refunds are by application only. Please download the Overland Track Refund Form [PDF 284KB] and send it to the following address:

Parks and Wildlife Service (DPIPWE)
PO Box 1751
Hobart 7001

Or you may lodge the form at one of the following: Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clair, Freycinet or Mt Field National Park Visitor Centres.

If possible, this form should be completed by the person nominated as the Contact Person, on behalf of others in the party.

Conditions

Refunds can only be made to those who have made and paid for a booking, but were unable to commence the walk. Refunds are subject to the Alterations and Cancellations Policy, part of the Terms and Conditions [PDF 268 KB], which are to be read and agreed to when booking.

You will receive a letter indicating your application has either been accepted or declined. Please allow 30 days for processing of application and refund.

Payment of Refund

Refunds cannot be made in cash.

If your original payment was by credit card, banking legislation requires that refunds of credit card payments be made back to the same credit card from which the payment originated.

If your original payment was by cash or cheque, refund will be by direct deposit into a nominated bank account of your choice, or by cheque.

Make a booking

Bookings are required for each walking season (1 November to 30 April). During the booking period walkers will be required to walk the track from North to South (Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair), and pay the Overland Track Fee.

Bookings open July each year for the coming season.

If you don't have access to the internet, you may make a booking by telephone (03 6233 6047) or in-person at one the following Tasmanian National Park Visitor Centres: Cradle, Lake St Clair, Freycinet or Mt Field.

The booking system for the Overland Track is designed to manage between 50 and 60 departures per day during the peak walking season. This comprises 34 independent bushwalkers (maximum party size of 8), and 2 groups of up to 13 commercial and community groups departing per day.

The booking system you are about to use enables you to make bookings from the pool of 34 independent walkers.

If you are planning to walk the Overland Track with an incorporated club, community group or school group, please contact (03) 6233 6047 for further information.
