Summary
ES Link P/L has submitted to Government a proposal for an expansion of accommodation facilities at Cynthia Bay, Lake St Clair. The proposal is within the ‘Cabin Accommodation and Campground Area’ as delineated within the Site Plan Cynthia Bay 2003. The proposed development site is in turn contained within the Cynthia Bay Visitor Services Zone (VSZ) of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (TWWHA).
The Proponent is the current leaseholder of the land for which the accommodation expansion proposal has been submitted. The site of the proposed development lies between the boat ramp and jetty to the east and west respectively, and is bounded by the Lake St Clair foreshore to the north. The southern boundary is the Lake St Clair Road.
Broadly, the proposed development includes:
- 18 new Lakeside Cabins;
- an extension to the existing backpackers to establish a new Backpackers Bunkhouse;
- Backpacker ablution block that will provide disabled access, incorporating a communal kitchen and dining space.
- consolidation of the Tent and Group Campground including construction of a Kitchen Shelter;
- consolidation of the Powered Campsites;
- redevelopment of an existing cabin as a wellness centre: and a range of public spaces and facilities (i.e. Star Watch Platform, upgrading of walking trail around the lakeshore, an Artist’s Platform and boardwalks through the site).
