Park Fees Increase in Line with CPI

Fees for passes to Tasmanian national parks will rise from 1 November 2009.

Parks and Wildlife Service general manager Peter Mooney said fees and charges are reviewed every two years and adjusted according to the Consumer Price Increase (CPI).

"The CPI showed a rise of 6.8 per cent since the last fee review in 2006 and implemented in 2007," Mr Mooney said. "The increased prices reflect this rise, with rounding of prices.

"For example, the 24 hour vehicle pass will rise from $22 to $24, the holiday vehicle pass will rise from $56 to $60 and the annual all parks pass will rise from $90 to $96."

Mr Mooney said commercial operators were notified of the increase last year to provide sufficient time to adjust their pricing.

Camping fees and other admission charges to specific attractions, such as Hastings Caves, were applied from 1 November last year.

"The prices for accommodation, camping and cabins, entry to attractions and park entry fees still compare very well with similar facilities and attractions within Tasmania and other states," he said.

"Tasmania's fees remain at the lower end of prices on a national basis.

"It's also important to note that revenue generated at each site will be retained at that site to be used to improve facilities and to ensure their future sustainability."
