TWWHA Management Plan - Limited Review

Review logo

This web page contains information on the current review of the Tasmanian Wilderness WHA Management Plan, 1999. This review is a mid term, limited review and update of the plan prior to the next full review scheduled for 2009.

The review has three stages:

Stage 1. Issues Identification (completed)

Identification of issues that require a change to the plan. To be considered the issues needed to: fix an error; be new issues not considered in the 1999 plan; or be areas of the plan that were significantly not achieving their objectives. They also needed to be urgent and important to change.

This stage of the review has been completed. The issues received have been summarised and the Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) response to each issue is noted in the ‘IssuesSieve’ (PDF 754 Kb) document.

Stage 2. Draft Plan Public Comment (completed)

Taking account of issues raised during Stage 1 and following further consultation, PWS developed the Draft Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area Management Plan 1999 – 2007 Update.

The draft plan was in the form of a table of changes. It shows the 1999 plan wording and how it is proposed to change this. It also lists, as an appendix, significant issues that have been held over for the full term review of the management plan.

The draft plan was available for public comment between 15 September 2007 until close of business on Monday, 29 October 2007.

The draft plan is still available online (PDF 890 Kb). The accompanying map (Map 3 World Heritage Area Zoning, p.77) is provided as a separate PDF (1410 Kb)

For further context, copies of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Management Plan 1999 are also available online

Paper versions of the 1999 plan, the draft plan and the IssuesSieve document are also available.

Stage 3. Final Approved Plan (in progress)

Finalisation and approval of the revised plan by the various advisory and approval bodies is due in late 2009.
