Centenary celebrations for Freycinet and Mount Field

18/03/2016

Tourism is one of Tasmania’s great competitive strengths and our national parks make a major contribution to the State’s regional and local economies.

Two of our most loved national parks, Freycinet and Mount Field, will this year celebrate their centenaries, with a series of events and activities spread out through the year.

The two parks were reserved on 29 August 1916 and remain among the state’s most visited parks.

It is a significant milestone that presents an opportunity for the community to acknowledge its strong connections to these two parks, and the immense contribution that parks and reserves make to the Tasmanian community.

A range of activities are planned to celebrate the Centenary of Tasmania’s parks including the Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival, Harmony Week celebration at Mount Field and at Launceston, a forum series hosted by the University of Tasmania  and the Western Tasmania Centenary Festival. Mount Field will celebrate the centenary with community events in April and Freycinet in August

I would encourage everyone to go along to an event and celebrate the natural beauty that all of Tasmania’s iconic parks have to offer.
