Freycinet walking tracks closed due to fire danger



There is a Statewide Total Fire Ban in place and the Freycinet and Douglas-Apsley tracks have been closed today due to the fire danger.

Parks staff are bracing for a tough day with very high fire danger ratings around the state and a continuing commitment of more than 20 staff to the Zeehan complex of four fires on the West Coast. Eight fire crews of two people each are undertaking patrol work at strategic locations including the Coningham/Snug area in the south, Mt Field and Mt Bethune area, Meehan Range and Seven Mile Beach, Coles Bay and Friendly Beaches, Scottsdale and St Helens and Ulverstone to Naranwtapu. A helicopter is also stationed at Triabunna along with Parks Fire Crew members.

The crews must report in the fire duty officer every two hours unless otherwise instructed.
