Maria Island is a national park (for information about the terrestrial features of the park, see our Visitor's Guide to Maria Island National Park).
The Marine Extension to the park includes all the waters up to 1 km offshore from the north-eastern point of Fossil Bay to Return Point on the north-west coast of the island, a total area of 1500 hectares.
The no fishing zone is marked on land by white stone markers at Return Point and Cape Boullanger (which is opposite Ile du Nord). Only recreational fishing is permitted within the fishing zone of the reserve.
A detailed plan showing the boundaries of the reserve is also available.
